In Jamiat Ghabele Control (این جمعیت قابل کنترل) is a 2025 Iranian social drama directed by Mohammad-Matin Owjani in his feature film debut, with screenplay by Ronak Barkhordar and produced by Mehrdad Farid. The ensemble cast includes Farideh Sepah-Mansour, Mohammad-Reza Davoodnejad, Alireza Ostadī, Zahra Davoodnejad, Merjan Qamri, Ronak Barkhordar, Mahnaz Aftadeh-Nia, Rasul Azimi, Vahid Elhoui, Maryam Shahvali, and Mohsen Ashtiani-Pour. The film centers on an 80-year-old grandmother, affectionately called “Khānjūn,” who lives in a large family in the south of Tehran and has long cherished a dream: to make a pilgrimage to Mecca. Her younger son finally secures her a Hajj package, but as the family tries to make her lifelong wish a reality, unexpected challenges—medical, emotional, and relational—arise.
Beyond the central arc of fulfilling a sacred aspiration, the film explores the strains within family life: dementia (or early signs thereof), caregiving burdens, generational conflict, the emotional distance that time and modern life create, and the roles and responsibilities of the “crowd” of family members. This Controllable Crowd has been praised for its sensitive treatment of aging, memory loss, and familial love, and has garnered international attention at festivals including in Bangladesh and Bulgaria.
