Pir Pesar
The Old Bachelor (فیلم پیرپسر) is a bold and emotional Iranian drama released in 2025, directed by Oktay Baraheni. The story follows a broken family living in an old house ruled by their harsh and self-centered father, Gholam Bastani, played by Hasan Pourshirazi. Gholam is addicted to alcohol and drugs, and despite his family’s suffering, he refuses to sell the family home. His two grown sons, Ali (played by Hamed Behdad) and Reza, each from a different mother, are trapped in a constant struggle with their father’s toxic behavior and their own anger and resentment. When a young woman named Rana (played by Leila Hatami) rents a room in their home, her presence becomes the spark that exposes years of hidden pain, jealousy, and family conflict. As tensions rise, the situation spirals into shocking violence and heartbreak. Visually powerful and deeply psychological, Pire Pesar uses the decaying house as a symbol of the family’s moral and emotional collapse. The film reflects themes of addiction, patriarchy, guilt, and generational trauma in modern Iranian society. Critics have praised it as a dark, honest, and thought-provoking film that portrays the painful reality of many Iranian families.
