Elate Marg Namaloom Movie (علت مرگ نامعلوم) is a 2025 Iranian social drama directed and written by Ali Zarnegar, marking his feature film debut. The story follows seven passengers traveling from Shahdad to Kerman before dawn. Their journey takes a harrowing turn when one of them is found dead, with no identification—only a stash of hidden cash. With no official death certificate, emergency services refuse to assist, forcing the group into a moral crisis. As fear and suspicion mount, the passengers grapple with ethical dilemmas, reflecting broader societal tensions. The film stars Banipal Shoomoon, Alireza Sanifar, and Neda Jebraeili, among others. Cinematographer Davood Malek Hosseini’s work earned the Best Cinematography award at the Shanghai International Film Festival. Despite facing a three-year ban in Iran, the film received critical acclaim internationally, including the Audience Favorite Film Award at the 3rd Iranian Film Festival in New York. “Cause of Death: Unknown” is a gripping exploration of morality, survival, and human nature under pressure.
