Bamboolak
Bamboolak (فیلم بامبولک) is a 2025 Iranian musical film directed by Arash Meirian and produced by Behrooz Mofid, aimed at children, teenagers, and family audiences. The story centers around a young girl named Nena (نعنا), who deeply yearns to have a sister or brother. Living as the granddaughter of “Bambala Khan” (بامبالا خان), Nena feels intense loneliness in her family. home. To help her fulfill this wish, Bamboolak—an invisible magical being only children can see—enters her life. Nena is supported on her quest by Bamboolak, while a mischievous antagonist named “Shitoonk” (شیطونک) tries to thwart their hopes. The film employs rich musical and visual elements—some puppet or fantasy-like scenes, computer and animation effects—to present both magical adventures and emotional depth.
Beyond its entertainment value, Bamboolak tackles important themes such as family, children’s longing, and the topic of child-bearing (فرزندآوری). Meirian has said the film reflects a societal concern about population, and it treats these big ideas through the lens of a child’s perspective. It premiered in February/March 2025 and won two Golden Awards at the 36th International Film Festival for Children and Adolescents: Best Direction and Best Child/Youth Actor.
